Week 10
TWO WEEKS TO GO!!!
As we move through the final stretch of the 2024/25 academic year, it’s a little surreal to realise just how close we are to the end.
We’re currently in week 10, with week 12 fast approaching – and with it, a number of important deadlines.
First and Second Years
The hand-in for both the Multi-Dimensional and Illustration Projects is set for Friday 9th May. We’ll cover submission details closer to the time, but for now, here’s what you should be focusing on:
- Finish strong – bring your current brief to the best conclusion you can.
- Revisit feedback – look over formative feedback from earlier briefs in your module and make any amendments or additions that will strengthen your submission.
- Keep your site up to date – don't leave it all to the last minute. Get your work online and in order ahead of the deadline.
Third Years
Your deadline comes a little later, as your final hand-in is tied to the Degree Show. More info on that will be with you very soon. Keep going – you’re nearly there!

THE science of succeeding with people

I recently mentioned this book in our 'An Audience with...' session and a number of you asked for details, so here it is.
'Captivate. The Science of Succeeding with People' is a great read for anyone who thinks they might benefit from some communication/interpersonal tips. If you're worried about this aspect of stepping into industry or the world of work, I recommend this book. It's not an academic text and it's not a cult-like self help book. Everything contained within is backed up by in-depth research and supported by online resources. |

Two Book Recommendations in One Week? Wild Times.
We don’t usually post book recommendations... but here we are, with two in one week. Exciting times! Following on from the huge engagement with our recent Business Master Class session with The AOI, it feels only right to highlight the work of Derek Brazell – one of the key figures at The AOI and a familiar name to many of you now. Along with his long-time writing partner Jo Davies, Derek has co-authored several excellent books on the subject of illustration – all of which we’re more than happy to recommend. Their latest title, Getting Illustration Clients, could be particularly useful for our Level 6 students who are almost ready to fly the nest (or at least invoice for their first big project!). Well worth a look. Oh, and there's a copy in our library |
Yvette Earl
Lonely planet book jacket
|
Illustration at Cumbria alumni and Carlisle's premier celebrity illustrator (she doesn't illustrate celebrities but she has appeared in those Carlisle/Cumbria magazines making her a clebrity, so that counts) Yvette Earl has just announced that she's produced her first book jacket and it is for none other than The Lonley Planet - a major client if ever there was!
Unrelated to this, we're in talks with Yvette to bring her in to studio for a few days over the coming weeks, just to have her provide her insight across various years and modules. |
